Kelly Wearstler.
She is a bit of a star in the US. She has been featured in Architectural Digest, Harper’s Bazar, Wallpaper*, Elle Decoration, Vogue Living. Her style is eclectic, a bit retro and hugely inspired. She describes it as “old-world Hollywood with a modern vibe”.
She is the creative talent behind the Viceroy Hotels in the States and South America. I was lucky enough to stay in one of the hotels she decorated in Santa Monica, California and couldn’t stop marveling at the amazing feel of luxury she managed to inject through the place; oversized white leather armchairs, whimsical and old fashioned wallpapers, strong accents of green and yellow and that library… Everything was just right! Everywhere I turned I just found something I wanted to take home!
The woman is busy. She was a judge on US show “Top Design”, has recently teamed up with Bergdorf Goodman to launch a line of exquisite home accessories bearing her name, has created a range of fabrics and wallpapers for F. Schumacher – some might be available in Australia (click here to find out where) and still manages to squeeze in residential projects.
She has talent and ambition – oh, and she is a stunning woman. You don’t become such an icon without a couple of those ingredients! And she still wants more. In an interview to Allthebestblog in 2007, she announced:
“I’ve accomplished so much in my career so far, but one day, I’d love to be invited to design the White House. That would be the ultimate accomplishment.”
That would be interesting and with the new First Lady seems even plausible…
