<p><a href="http://www.steamcrow.com" target="_blank">Steam Crow</a> is a small studio based in Arizona. They do very cool illustration work with Monsters and stuff and we like it.</p>
<p>They&#8217;ve already published 3 books, sell awesome prints and goodies on their site and are very active on the comics convention circuit in the US. I just wish Australia had such thing as a comics convention!<br />
Daniel and Dawna &#8211; they are Steam Crow &#8211; also created a crazy webcomic called Monster Commute &#8211; about the endless daily commute of a robot and a beast, stuck on a monster highway.</p>
<p>At the moment they are trying to raise funds to publish a Monster Commute book. They are not looking for donations but you can pre-order the book or buy a pdf version of it (available once the book is published). <p>We have been busy making some changes on <a href="http://www.designivist.com.au" target="_blank">www.designivist.com.au</a> to make it more user friendly and efficient. Poor excuse for letting the blog down but you know what it&#8217;s like&#8230;</p>

- Save heaps of time with super fast uploads and searches now that we are on an Australian server<br />

- Get more privacy from recruiters. We have changed around the way your portfolio names display. Don&#8217;t worry it is still very easy for companies to contact you<br />

<p>Following a multimillion pound refurbishment, and using little more than seawater, <a href="http://www.sealife.co.uk/london">SEA LIFE London Aquarium</a> ran a (close to) zero-impact advertising campaign in the streets of London earlier this week.</p>
<p>Dubbed ’sea tagging’, this tool simply entails spraying seawater through custom-made stencils. Salt water evaporates more slowly than fresh water, and the stencilled graphics are visible for 5–15 minutes.</p>
<p>For the SEA LIFE campaign, over 2,000 images of sea turtles, sharks and seahorses were sprayed on streets, walls and sidewalks in 300 locations by a team of taggers dressed in scuba diving gear. Since the adverts are temporary and consist of nothing but water, there was need to to worry about permission or permits.</p>
<p>Considering the amount of visual clutter in public spaces that’s created by non-stop marketing efforts, a campaign that leaves nothing behind but a dusting of seasalt is as appealing for aesthetic reasons as it is for its low impact on the environment. While it may not work in hot cities, we expect to see sea tagging appear (and disappear) in other parts of the world soon.</p>

Aiming to keep its share of reusable boxes out of the recycling bin, <a href="http://www.columbia.com/">Columbia Sportswear</a> recently launched an effort to let customers request that their orders be shipped in boxes that have been used before.</p>
<p>Consumers can already buy and sell their own used boxes on <a href="http://springwise.com/life_hacks/matching_buyers_and_sellers_of/">BoxCycle</a>, which we covered about a year ago, and now Columbia Sportswear is bringing the concept into the corporate domain. When online shoppers reach checkout at Columbia.com, the website gives them the choice of shipping their order in a previously used cardboard box. Since the launch of the effort in August, more than 60 percent of online customers have selected the used box option, Columbia says. Perhaps even more interesting, however, is that Columbia places a sticker on the outside of each used box that includes a unique code and number. Entering that number or scanning the code via mobile phone into Columbia&#8217;s &#8220;A Box Life&#8221; community site reveals a wealth of information about where that box has been. Then, before sending their reused box on its next journey, consumers are encouraged to post pictures of their own to the A Box Life Flickr group and to tweet about their box’s journey by adding the hash tag #aboxlife to Twitter posts when they have something “box worthy” to share.</p>
<p>Not only does Oregon-based Columbia&#8217;s effort create a new, <a href="http://trendwatching.com/trends/ecoiconic.htm">eco-iconic</a> shipping option, but it also brings the concept of product life stories into the world of packaging materials. In this era of transparency and sustainability, it&#8217;s not hard to imagine Columbia&#8217;s example setting a new standard for mail-order retailers worldwide. One to emulate sooner rather than later!</p>

There is now a great place to get all the design related news you are craving for. Mag nation have just opened their first shop in Sydney, this follows in the footstep of the Auckland and Melbourne shops.</p>
<p>They do not stock as many titles as the Melbourne shops just yet but they will be adding them as they go. They promised they would filter them over the coming weeks. The coffee shop is still to be added but I&#8217;m sure you can live without your daily fix for a bit longer.</p>

Advertisements are included, but not on the same pages as the photos; rather, they&#8217;re removable full-page inserts. In addition, for every 10 friends who install the HotPrints application, HotPrints credits the user for another free book. Those who would rather skip the ads, meanwhile, can pay USD 2.99—GBP 1.99—for an ad-free version.</p>
<p>With more than 300 million active users and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?statistics">2 billion photos uploaded each month</a> on Facebook alone, it would be difficult to find a better place to give out free photo love.
